The 1906 Project Receives Black Spectrum Theater Community Appreciation Award at the 19th Annual St. Albans Jazz Festival

St. Albans. NY- The 1906 Project received a special award from the Black Spectrum Theater for serving the Southeast Community during the worldwide pandemic of 2020.

The award was presented at the 19th Annual St.Albans Jazz/R&B Festival at St. Albans Park on July 17th, celebrating the Black Spectrum Theatre’s 50th Anniversary.

The Appreciation Award reads: “Your Covid testing for the community weeks before the city could get their testing up for our community help save lives. You walked the extra mile for us. You are appreciated.”

The 1906 Project Executive Board Members Jeff Terry (Treasurer), and Ray Gamble (Vice President) accepted the award on behalf of the organization.

Jean Duchatellier, President of The 1906 Project, said the organization was honored to receive the award from the revered community organization. He said The 1906 Project would continue to work with local community partners like the Black Spectrum Theater to assist local residents and build stronger communities.

Duchatellier said the Black Spectrum Theater has played a vital role in shaping the community during the past five decades and congratulated Founder Carl Clay on celebrating their 50th anniversary.

Carl Clay—a playwright, director, and filmmaker—founded Black Spectrum Theatre Company as a traveling theatrical troupe in 1970. He is now its executive producer. Since that time, Black Spectrum has grown into a multifaceted performing arts and media company that has produced and presented over 150 plays, 30 films, and numerous works of music, dance, and performance art. Black Spectrum Theatre is the recipient of ten AUDELCO Awards and three National Black Theatre Festival Awards for excellence in African-American theatre.
